The Love Story

It all started back in July 2020—prime COVID time—when Nick messaged Ashley on a dating app called Hinge. One of Ashley’s profile prompts read: “The key to my heart is… if you can quote The Office.” (For those who don’t know, The Office is an iconic comedy series. Seriously, where have you been?)

Nick, being "The Office" fanatic he is, knew this was his moment to shine. He confidently slid into her DMs with a classic Office quote, convinced it would break the ice and, frankly, maybe win him a place in her heart.

    And then… nothing.

For two whole weeks, Nick anxiously stared at his phone, wondering: Was she ignoring him? Did she think his quote was lame? Or had he just ruined his chance to find true love with a line from Michael Scott? Little did he know, Ashley was simply taking a break from the app. When she finally returned and saw his message, she responded with another Office quote—proving that destiny had its own comedic timing.

From that point on, they talked every day, sending each other memes and making each other laugh. Ashley, however, started to wonder: Is this guy ever going to ask me out? Was she stuck in a never-ending “chat and laugh” loop? And more importantly, was Nick actually a real person or just a very sophisticated catfish? But just as she was starting to lose faith, Nick finally popped the question: “Wanna go on a date?”

August 7, 2020 – The first date Nick planned for them to meet at a restaurant by Dow’s Lake. As soon as they saw each other, the spark was undeniable. It was like a rom-com—minus the cheesy soundtrack, but definitely plus the cocktails. Over drinks, they shared endless laughs, bonding over their similar sense of humor—especially about their slightly over the top waitress. That night, they both knew this was the start of something special.

For Nick, it was love at first sight. He was all in from the moment they met, ready to sign up for a lifetime of bad puns and Office quotes. For Ashley, it was a slow and steady realization. She didn’t just like him—she found herself actually looking forward to every conversation and laugh. It was the kind of feeling you get when you’re pretty sure you’ve found someone you could share memes with forever.

On October 1, 2020, Nick finally asked Ashley to officially be his girlfriend. And from that first shot, the rest was history. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” – Wayne Gretzky. – Michael Scott
